About the plant: Wintergreen belongs to the family of Ericaceae, heathers. Many know it as a popular evergreen and hardy groundcover. The whitish to pink flowers of the plant, also known as "creeping false berry" or "carpet berry", ripen after flowering into the bright red and fleshy fruits.

Traditional usage: By the Indians, the tea from the leaves of wintergreen has been drunk for centuries to relieve pain, or the leaves are also placed directly on aching joints or grinded. According to tradition, they also chewed them, which supposedly increased lung capacity so they could walk longer distances. In addition, dental ailments could probably be alleviated and there are reports of circulation-enhancing, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties that the plant is said to possess. This is due to the main chemical constituent in wintergreen, methyl salicylate. Thanks to its soothing and warming properties, it is often added to massage oils and can also provide soothing support for stressed skin and a pleasantly relaxed feeling after exercise.
