Lavender
Charakter des Öls: aromatisch, frisch, blumig-krautig mit balsamisch-holzigem Unterton
Adjectives of oil: Lavender, also known as "true lavender", belongs to the labiates family and is native mainly to France and the Balkans. It grows wild on dry and rocky slopes and was brought over the Alps by Benedictine monks, where it can survive the winters common there thanks to its resistance to cold. The plant grows up to one meter high and is characterized by its purple flower crown and its fragrant distinctive scent. Today, lavender is also cultivated specifically because, in addition to its many uses as a medicinal plant, it can also be used as an effective remedy against moths and other insects and is an aromatic fragrance dispenser for laundry, for example.
Traditional usage: In folk medicine, lavender has long been one of the proven remedies and served in the past, among other things, as a "stomach soother". Doctors such as Culpeper (ret. 1640) have seen him already in early times quite not without reason as a panacea. Its wide range of effects is not surprising, considering that the plant contains 160 to 180 different substances. In naturopathy it is used, among other things, for skin problems, burns, tension and insomnia, as well as for muscular, digestive and respiratory complaints. Due to its strong disinfectant properties, it can also be used to purify indoor air. Lavender essential oil obtained by steam distillation is very mild, so it is suitable for children and elderly and sensitive people without hesitation.
